Have you ever embedded Facebook or Instagram content on your website by copying and pasting the URL into your WordPress editor?
Facebook and Instagram no longer support unauthenticated Facebook and Instagram embeds. This means that after October 24th, only publishers with Facebook developer accounts and registered Facebook apps will be able to ingest embedded content. This change is retroactive and applies to all content ever published.
If you have embedded Facebook or Instagram content in your WordPress website by pasting the URL, the change may break the posts.
What do website operators have to do:
- A Facebook developer account, which you can create at developers.facebook.com
- A registered Facebook app
- An access token
- The Facebook app must be in live mode
Since we at myls are always informed about the latest API changes, we have already implemented a fix in the latest versions from our customer websites. That way, when WordPress drops support for Facebook and Instagram oEmbeds on October 24th, there will be no issues with broken content.
